Dave, there is NO confusion; coconut oil is manifestly healthy, be there no question of that. The folks vending the oil are on safe ground. Any attempts to denigrate its beneficial properties are spuriously evidenced.
According to some who sell coconut oil it is extremely healthy & they offer some detail to back up the argument ( http://www.coconut-connections.com/) so I would like to know if they are wildly wrong or have you got your facts mixed up. Some further information / evidence would be useful to those of us who are confused.
I've got to say that I find the person who entered the below comment (10th March) quite arrogant. Yes, you have preferences but so do most of the critics out there. Alan Hansen supports Liverpool, Ian Hyman hates Davina McCall and Chris Moyles whilst Jeremy Clarkson is a staunch Tory-boy. I find the column informative and helpful and as someone who started a mid-life health regime off the back of seeing your video whilst running the marathon, I hope you continue. I don't agree with everything you say or everything you suggest I/we do, but would I agree with everything Sir Steve Redgrave advised? Each to their own I say!
I've got to say, I find your columns quite arrogant. You come across like you know everything best, and some things people may do is wrong. Take your "21st Century Sins" column for example. I find it really amusing you knock people who have no choice but to sit at a computer at work, yet if they people didn't use their computers to look up e-mail on hotmail, as well as read MSN, your columns wouldn't get as many hits, and it could affect your work here. You're like every other fitness fanatic I've had the misfortune of having to work for in the gym. You're arrogant, and you believe your high and mighty views are the only ones that're right, while enjoying quoting "new scientific research" that shows everything we do in our everyday lives is wrong. Next week, you'll probably have a new column out that'll be completely against some of the facts you've written here.
